Chimerical Creatures
chimera: A creation of the imagination: an impossible and foolish fantasy.
Here are some of my impossible and foolish fantasies.
As I have said in my Artist Statement, I like to make pictures that hopefully inspire the viewer to make up stories about them. I think that this series has the potential to inspire the most interesting stories. I hope so, anyway. Each character in these pictures look as though they have been caught in a moment in time, have an interesting back-story and still have many adventures ahead.
The dress and masks which were the inspiration for ‘Incubation’ were in a folk museum in Malaga, Spain. The fabric of the dress has sections that look like windows. Whether the masks were worn in a previous pandemic, I don’t know. In reality, just for a moment, these Spanish masks originate from the Moorish tradition.
This is my latest series and I am at my happiest when creating these fabulous beings.
